Position Sensor for the Joystick Control (Electronic Technician) - Calibrate

Usage:

824G II AWW
This calibration procedure will set the signal limits for the position sensors of the joystick control. The signal limits are the maximum and the minimum duty cycle that is sent from the position sensors to the implement Electronic Control Module (ECM). This will allow the implement ECM to determine the position of the joystick control.

Calibration Procedure

Note: If you press the scroll switch and the clear switch at the same time during a calibration, the calibration will abort.

  1. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Lower the blade to the ground. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.

  1. Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the machine. The connector is located behind the seat on the right side of the cab.

Reference: For additional information on use of the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET), refer to Troubleshooting and Testing and Adjusting, "Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes" for the machine that is being serviced.

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. Open the software program for Electronic Technician.

  1. Select "Implement 824G II", "Implement 825G II", or "Implement 826G II" from the "ECM Selector" screen and click on the "OK" button.

  1. Select "Service" menu in Electronic Technician.

  1. Select "Calibrations" from the "Service" menu.

  1. Select "Joystick Calibrations" from the "Calibrations" menu. The screen will display all the joystick controls that are available on the machine.

Note: The ET software defaults so that all the joystick movements will be selected for calibration. Select the check mark button next to an individual joystick movement in order to remove a joystick movement from the calibration procedure.

  1. Once you have selected the joystick control to calibrate, select the "Begin" button. The screen will change in order to display step-by-step instructions for calibrating the joystick control.

Note: The ET screen will be divided into three display areas. The top section of the screen will be used to display important status parameters that are monitored during the calibration. The middle section of the screen displays the information about the calibration procedure. The bottom section of the screen displays the step-by-step instructions for the calibration. The step that currently needs to be performed will be in bold text. All other steps will be displayed in gray text.

  1. Select the "Next" button in order to begin the calibration. A checked mark box will be placed to the left of a completed step and the next step will be highlighted in bold text. After successful completion of a step, select the "Next" button in order to begin the following step. Follow the steps that are listed in the bottom section of the screen until the calibration procedure is complete.

Note: The middle section of the screen will display a message that will inform you of the status of the calibration.

  1. Continue to follow the instructions that are listed on the screen until the calibration is completed.

  1. The ET will automatically start the next calibration. Select the "Next" button in order to begin the calibration.

  1. The ET will display a status screen when the calibrations are complete or when you select the "Cancel" button. The status screen will inform you if the calibrations were successful. The Implement ECM will store the new calibration data only when the calibration is successful.

  1. Select the "Restart" button in order to repeat the joystick calibrations or select another menu option in order to exit from the calibration screen for the joystick control.

  1. Continue to the next calibration procedure or turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Remove the service tooling from the machine.
