System Configuration Parameters

Usage:

3176C 3PD
System configuration parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and machine applications. Default values for the parameters are programmed at the factory. Some parameters may be changed by the customer in order to suit the needs of the specific application. You must reprogram the system configuration parameters if the ECM is replaced and/or you reprogram the engine rating. Proper values for these parameters are available on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Certain configuration parameters are also stamped on the engine information plate.

Parameter Descriptions

Injector Codes

Note: The injector codes are not part of the "Configuration" screen on Cat ET. "Injector Codes Calibration" can be found under "Calibrations" in the "Service" menu on Cat ET.

The injector code is a number that is found on each of the unit injectors. The ECM uses this number to compensate for manufacturing variations between individual injectors. If you replace any of the unit injectors, you must reprogram the code for the new injectors. Also, if you replace the ECM, you must reprogram all of the injector codes.

"Product ID"

The "Product ID" parameter allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM in order to identify the machine. A maximum of 8 characters can be entered in the field.

"Equipment ID"

The "Equipment ID" parameter allows the customer to enter a description into the ECM in order to identify the machine. A maximum of 17 characters can be entered in the field.

"Engine Serial Number"

The "Engine Serial Number" should be programmed to match the engine serial number that is stamped on the engine information plate. The engine serial number is not preprogrammed on a replacement ECM.

"FLS" (Full Load Setting)

"FLS" is a number that represents the adjustment to the fuel system that was made at the factory in order to fine tune the fuel system. The correct value for this parameter is stamped on the engine information ratings plate. This value should only be changed if the engine is rerated or a new ECM is installed. Factory passwords are required.

"FTS" (Full Torque Setting)

"FTS" is similar to "FLS". This value should only be changed if the engine is rerated or a new ECM is installed. Factory passwords are required.

"Throttle Lock Engine Speed Limit"

The "Throttle Lock Engine Speed Limit" parameter allows the maximum engine speed (rpm) for the throttle lock to be programmed within the available range.

"Ether Control"

The "Ether Control" parameter allows the operation of this feature to be enabled or disabled.

"System Battery Voltage Low Elevated Idle"

The "System Battery Voltage Low Elevated Idle" parameter allows the operation of this feature to be enabled or disabled. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Elevated Idle" for more information.

"Engine Fan Control"

The "Engine Fan Control" parameter allows the operation of this feature to be enabled or disabled.

"Engine Fan Reversing Feature"

The "Engine Fan Reversing Feature" parameter allows the operation of this feature to be enabled or disabled.

"Engine Retarder Enable Command"

The "Engine Retarder Enable Command" parameter allows the operation of this feature to be enabled or disabled. If your application is equipped with a compression brake, this parameter should be programmed to "Enabled".

"Engine Security System Status"

This parameter allows the Machine Security System to be disabled or removed. If the Machine Security System is removed from the machine and this parameter is not programmed to "Disabled", the engine will not start. Factory passwords are required.
