Schematic of Solenoid 4 |
Use table 1 in order to determine the solenoids that are energized. Table 1 identifies the solenoids that are energized for each position on the shift lever.
Gear     | Solenoid that is Energized     | |
Neutral     | No solenoids are energized.     | |
Forward 1     | 3 and 4     | |
Forward 2     | 1 and 4     | |
Forward 3     | 3 and 5     | |
Forward 4     | 1 and 5     | |
Forward 5     | 1 and 6     | |
Reverse 1     | 2 and 4     | |

Note: The approximate coil resistance of the solenoid is 34 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F).
This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the voltage of the solenoid circuit as being below normal range (open circuit).
Note: This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. Complete the following procedure. Then clear the created diagnostic codes.
This diagnostic code is associated with transmission solenoid 4.
FMI 05 is recorded when the transmission electronic control module senses an incomplete circuit. The circuit of the solenoid is incomplete.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN.
- Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
- Disconnect the machine harness from the control module.
- Measure the resistance between contact 39 and contact 34.
Expected Result:
The resistance is between 7 ohms and 10 ohms.
Results:
- YES - The resistance is between 7 ohms and 10 ohms. The sensor is operating properly. Inspect the harness connector and inspect the contacts. Verify that the diagnostic code is present. If the code is present, the transmission electronic control module has failed.
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Also, recheck if the diagnostic code is active. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the transmission ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Clear the diagnostic code. Refer to Systems Operation, "Diagnostic Operation".
Stop.
- NO - The resistance is not between 7 ohms and 10 ohms. The machine harness has failed or the solenoid has failed.
Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness and/or the solenoid. Clear the diagnostic code. Refer to Systems Operation, "Diagnostic Operation".
Stop.
