The carriage assembly (4) has two slide shafts and two housing assemblies. Each housing assembly has one bushing that is in contact with a slide shaft. The upper housing assembly (2) slides on the upper slide shaft (1). The lower housing assembly (6) slides on the lower slide shaft (9). If there is too much play between the housing assemblies, you must adjust the housing assemblies.
- Raise the screed. Install the tow point cylinder pins.

- The screed must be at the null point before you work on the housing assemblies. Extend the extenders.
- Ensure that the extenders have alignment with the main screed. The base plates should be flat with each other.
- Lower the screed on a flat surface.
- Turn the thickness controls to the null position. Turn the thickness controls until you feel slack in the controls. The controls will turn easily with no drag when the controls are in the null position. Check both controls for null.

- Set the crown control at the zero position.
Illustration 4 | g00790190 |
- Set the slope control at the zero position.
- Remove the top cover of the right extender.
Illustration 5 | g00791391 |
- Locate the three 8I-0184 Adjustment Nuts (7) that are on the lower housing assembly (6). Loosen the three adjustment nuts and loosen the adjusters.

- Locate the twelve 8T-8917 Bolts that hold the housing assemblies to the carriage assembly (4). There are six bolts in the upper housing assembly. There are six bolts in the lower housing assembly.
- Loosen the six bolts (3) for the upper housing assembly. Loosen the six bolts (5) for the lower housing assembly. This will allow the extender to relax. The extender will be at a parallel position with the main screed.
- Tighten the six 8T-8917 Bolts in the upper housing assembly to a torque of 150 N·m (110 lb ft).
- Tighten the three 8I-0184 Adjustment Nuts. Start with the middle adjustment nut and tighten the nut to a torque of 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
- Tighten the six 8T-8917 Bolts in the lower housing assembly to a torque of 150 N·m (110 lb ft).
- Perform this procedure on the remaining adjusters. Tighten the jam nuts for the adjusters.
- Extend the extender and retract the extender.
- When you extend the extender, the screed should travel smoothly.
- Repeat this procedure for the left extender.
