Introduction

This special instruction outlines the basic information in order to attach a tooth bar to either a general purpose bucket or a multipurpose bucket.

Two series of tooth bars are available. Series I is designed to fit on buckets with no additional cutting edges. Series II is designed to fit over a cutting edge which is bolted to the bucket.

Adding a tooth bar to a bucket offers several advantages:

  • Penetration is improved.

  • The need for a separate tooth bucket is eliminated.

  • Bucket cutting edges and corners are protected.

Before you proceed with the installation of a tooth bar, understand the installation instructions. The instructions in this publication are written so one person can install a tooth bar.

For correct machine operation, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the skid steer loader.

  1. Move the Machine to a flat surface.

  1. Stop the machine according to the Operation and Maintenance Manual that is provided with your machine. The bucket must be on the ground.

  1. Place the tooth bar on the ground in front of the bucket. Align the rear of the tooth bar with the front edge of the bucket. The weight of a tooth bar is 52 kg (115 lb). Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Start the machine.

  1. Slowly move the machine forward until the bucket's front edge is inserted into the tooth bar.

  1. Tilt the front edge of the bucket upward in order to seat the tooth bar on the bucket.

Note: The tooth bar can also be lifted onto the bucket's front edge by two people. The tooth bar weighs 52 kg (115 lb).

  1. When the tooth bar is seated, mark the outline of hole (C) on the inside of the bucket. Repeat the procedure on the other side wall of the bucket. Refer to Illustration 3.

Note: Some buckets come from the factory with holes. If a bucket has holes that will accept tooth bars, secure the tooth bar to the bucket with the parts in Table 2. Also refer to Illustration 5 in this publication.

  1. Remove the tooth bar.

    (E) Hole location for new cutting edges

  1. Drill the necessary holes in order to correctly install the tooth bar. Refer to Illustration 4 for positioning of the holes.

Note: The diameter of each hole must be 25.4 mm (1 inch).

  1. Put the tooth bar on the bucket. Repeat Steps 5 to 6.

  1. Secure each support plate (B) of the tooth bar to the bucket (A) with a 8S-9093 Bolt (1), a 5P-8250 Washer (2), a 3B-4516 Lockwasher (3), and a 2J-3507 Full Nut . Refer to Illustration 5.

    Tighten the bolt to a torque of 1220 ± 149 N·m (900 ± 110 lb ft).
