Piston Cooling Jets - Remove and Install

Usage:

3034 3NW

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove banjo bolt (1) from piston cooling jet (2) .

  1. Remove piston cooling jet (2) from the cylinder block.

    Note: The engine crankshaft may be rotated in order to access all of the piston cooling jets.

  1. Remove hollow dowel (3) from the cylinder block.

    Note: Hollow dowel (3) is used to locate the piston cooling jet.

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the removal of the remaining piston cooling jets.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Install piston cooling jet (2) to the cylinder block.

    Note: Ensure that piston cooling jet (2) is properly located on hollow dowel (3). Refer to Specifications, "Piston Cooling Jet" for the correct procedure for the alignment of the piston cooling jet.

  1. Install banjo bolt (1) into piston cooling jet (2). Tighten banjo bolt (1) to a torque of 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  1. Repeat Steps 1 through 2 for the installation of the remaining piston cooling jets.

End By: Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
