Schematic for the Implement Lockout Switch |
This diagnostic code is recorded when the status of both the normally open inputs and the normally closed inputs are open. The switch has two inputs to the ECM. The inputs are normally open and normally closed. During proper operation, one input is open and the other input is grounded.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
- The switch is disconnected from the harness.
- The normally closed circuit is open while the normally open circuit is open by the switch.
- The normally open circuit is open while the normally closed circuit is open by the switch.
- The ground circuit to the switch is open.
- The normally open circuit and the normally closed circuit are shorted together. The switch must be in one specific position.
- The switch has failed.
System Response:
The machine response is listed:
- The implements will not work.
Table 1 contains wire numbers and connector contacts. Use this information to troubleshoot the failed circuit.
Switch Continuity     | |||||
Switch / CID     | Switch State     | Implement ECM Connector Contact No.     | Switch Contact     | Wire No.     | Status     |
CID 0490 Implement Lockout Switch     | Not Locked     | J1-13 N/O (1)     | N/O     | E917-WH     | O (2)     |
J1-14 N/C (3) | N/C     | E918-GN     | G (4)     | ||
Locked | J1-13 N/O     | N/O     | E917-WH     | G     | |
J1-14 N/C | N/C     | E918-GN     | O     |
( 1 ) | N/O = Normally Open. |
( 2 ) | O = Open (no continuity to ground). |
( 3 ) | N/C = Normally Closed. |
( 4 ) | G = Grounded ( continuity to ground). |
Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code is corrected.
Ensure that CID 0490 FMI 05 is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT OF THE HARNESS.
- Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- At the screw terminals for the switch, measure the resistance between wire 299-BK and frame ground.
Expected Result:
The resistance is 2.0 ohms or less.
Results:
- YES - The resistance is 2.0 ohms or less. The ground circuit for the harness is correct. Proceed to test step 2.
- NO - The resistance is greater than 2.0 ohms. The ground for the harness has failed.
Repair: Wire 299-BK is open in the harness between the switch and frame ground. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
Stop.
Test Step 2. CHECK THE SWITCH.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Ensure that CID 0490 FMI 05 is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.
- Disconnect the switch from the harness.
- Observe the ON/OFF status of the diagnostic code indicator.
- At the harness connector for the switch, jumper the normally closed contact to ground. See Table 1 for the appropriate connector contacts.
Expected Result:
The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.
Results:
- YES - The diagnostic code indicator is inactive.
Repair: The switch has failed or the harness has failed. Repeat this test step in order to verify that the switch has failed. Repair the switch or replace the switch. Repair the switch harness or replace the switch harness.
Stop.
- NO - The diagnostic code indicator remains active. The switch is not the cause of this diagnostic code. Proceed to test step 3.
Test Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS CIRCUIT.
- This step checks the continuity of the entire harness circuit that is related to this diagnostic code. The switch that was checked in the previous step is also checked.
- Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Remove the jumper that was used in the previous step.
- Reconnect the switch that was disconnected in the previous step to the harness.
- Disconnect the harness from the implement ECM.
- At the harness connector for the ECM, check the continuity to ground of the normally closed contact and the normally open contact. Activate the switch when this check is being performed. See Table 1 for the proper contacts.
Expected Result:
The continuity does not agree with the value in Table 1.
Results:
- YES - The continuity does not agree with the value in the preceding table.
Repair: The harness circuit has failed. There is an open in the harness between the ECM and the switch. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
Stop.
- NO - The continuity agrees with the value in the preceding table. The harness circuit is correct.
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this troubleshooting procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
Stop.
