Usage:
(29)Cooling System-Change Antifreeze Solution
At Operating Temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check coolant level ONLY when engine is stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your hand. Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |
NOTICE |
---|
If engine is to be stored in, or shipped to, an area with below freezing temperatures, the cooling system must either be protected to the lowest expected ambient temperature, or drained completely. Never add coolant to an overheated engine, allow engine to cool first. Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner or Coolant Conditioner Elements with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill coolant. |
- 1. Loosen radiator cap slowly to release pressure and remove filler cap.
- 2. Remove radiator drain plug.
- 3. Remove engine block drain plugs.
- 4. Add to the cooling system, 1 quart (1 liter) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner or equivalent, to each 8 gallons (30.5 liters) of cooling system capacity.
- 5. Mix sufficient antifreeze with water to provide protection to the lowest expected ambient temperature.
- 6. To help avoid air pockets, add antifreeze solution slowly, at 5 U.S. gallons (19 liters) per minute or less. See REFILL CAPACITIES.
- 7. Bring the coolant level to within 1/2 inch (1 cm) of the bottom of the fill pipe.
- 8. Start the engine with the radiator cap off. Add coolant, if necessary, when the level stabilizes.
- 9. Stop the engine.
- 10. Inspect the radiator cap. If the seal or cap is damaged, replace the cap.
- 11. Install the radiator cap.
