NOTICE |
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Personal injury can result from hot oil or hot components. At operating temperature, oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill cap only when the engine is stopped, and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin. |

- Position a suitable container under drain plug (1) in order to contain the oil for storage or disposal. Remove drain plug (1) and the gasket (not shown) in order to drain the oil from the oil pan. The capacity of the oil pan is292 L (77 US gal).

- Mark the locations of bolts (2) and (4) prior to removal for installation purposes. Remove two bolts (2) , the washers and two clamps (3) in order to disconnect the tube assembly from the oil pan.
- Remove nine bolts (4) and the washers from the oil pan.

- Remove nine bolts (5) and the washers from the flywheel housing end of oil pan (6) .

Note: Leave four bolts (7) and the washers in place on the four corners of oil pan (6) until oil pan (6) can be supported by two people for the removal.
- Remove 16 of 20 bolts (7) that hold oil pan (6) to the engine block.

- Remove bolt (8) , the washer, and clamp (9) in order to move the hose assembly while oil pan (6) is removed.
- Support oil pan (6) with two people while the final four bolts (7) are removed. Remove oil pan (6) , the gaskets, and the integral seal from the engine block. The weight of oil pan (6) is 19 kg (42 lb).
Installation Procedure

- Install five gaskets (10) , (11) , and (12) to oil pan (6) . Install integral seal (13) . Apply Loctite 595 or 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket to the oil pan as it is necessary.
- Apply loctite 595 or 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket to joints (X) and tee joint (Y) .

Note: Prior to the installation, apply 4C-9508 Wicking Sealant to the bolts.
- Position oil pan (6) with two people while four bolts (7) are installed at each corner of oil pan (6) . The weight of oil pan (6) is 19 kg (42 lb).

- Position the hose assembly around oil pan (6) , as shown. Install bolt (8) , the washer, and clamp (9) .

Note: Apply 4C-9508 Wicking Sealant to the bolts prior to installation.
- Install the remaining 16 bolts (7) and the washers to oil pan (6) .

- Install nine bolts (5) and the washers to the flywheel housing end of oil pan (6) .

- Install nine bolts (4) and the washers to the oil pan.
- Install two bolts (2) , the washers and two clamps (3) in order to connect the tube assembly to the oil pan.

- Install drain plug (1) and the gasket (not shown) to the oil pan. Tighten drain plug (1) to a torque of 145 ± 15 N·m (107 ± 11 lb ft).
- Refill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct refill capacity.
