554 Forwarder and 574 Forwarder Caterpillar

Engine Speed Control

Usage:

554 1AM

Illustration 1g00658618

When you are in the working mode, the engine speed can be maintained by using rotary potentiometer (1) on the right side of the cab. This potentiometer controls the minimum engine speed while you are in the working mode.

Illustration 2g00871818

The potentiometer will only function if the machine is being operated in the working mode. Use mode switch (2) on the right hand control unit in order to choose the working mode or the roading mode. The potentiometer will not function when the machine is being operated in the roading mode. When the machine is placed into the roading mode, the accelerator pedal will control the minimum engine speed.

Press mode switch (2) in order to activate the working mode. Press the switch again in order to return to the roading mode.

Note: If the machine is in roading mode the loader and the joysticks will be deactivated.

The speed of the engine will be displayed on the IQAN screen.

Engine Speed Control During Working Mode

The recommended minimum working mode engine speed for the 554 Forwarder is 1400 to 1500 rpm. The recommended minimum working mode engine speed for the 574 Forwarder is 1300 to 1400 rpm. Adjust the engine speed with potentiometer (1) when you are in the working mode.

While the machine is in the working mode, potentiometer (1) will control the constant speed of the engine. The IQAN computer monitors the setting of the potentiometer. The IQAN then receives the accelerator pedal position. Pressing the accelerator pedal will not increase the speed of the engine until the IQAN control calculates the need of the RPM increase. When the position of the accelerator pedal reaches the minimum engine speed setting, the engine speed will begin to increase. The accelerator will only allow the speed of the machine to increase to the maximum allowable machine speed.

If a travel direction is selected, the accelerator pedal will send the desired travel speed signal to the IQAN. IQAN will increase the engine speed in order to reach the machine speed above the preset of the potentiometer (1) .

Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Machine Speed Control" for more information.

Engine Speed Control During Roading Mode

When you are operating the machine on the road, the operating mode switch must be in the roading mode. This will allow the accelerator pedal to control the engine speed and the machine speed. The minimum engine speed control will not function when the machine is in the roading mode.
