Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Install the wheel chocks.

  1. Position Tooling (A) as shown. Use Tooling (A) to lift the front of the machine until most of the weight is removed from the tire and rim assembly. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1303, "Lift Group (Stand - 25 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (A).

  2. Remove ten of the 12 full nuts and the hard washers that hold the tire and rim in position.

    Note: Leave two full nuts and hard washers in place on opposite sides.

  3. Use Tooling (A) to lift the machine until the tire and rim assembly is off the ground.

  4. Put a lift truck in position under the tire and rim. Fasten the tire and rim to the lift truck.

  5. The tire and rim assembly can also be removed by using a tire handler, as shown.

  6. Remove the two remaining full nuts and the hard washers from the tire and rim. Remove tire and rim (1). The weight of the tire and rim assembly is 495 kg (1091 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Verify that all the components of the tire and rim are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation.

  2. Inspect all components for wear and replace the components, if necessary.

  3. Clean the threads of the studs of anti-seize compound, paint, grease, or other foreign material. Clean the mounting surfaces of anti-seize compound, paint, grease, or other foreign material. Apply 4C-5593 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the full nuts and to the washer faces.

  4. Put a lift truck in position under the tire and rim. Fasten the tire and rim to the lift truck.

  5. The tire and rim assembly can also be installed by using a tire handler, as shown.

  6. Place the tire and rim in position. The weight of the tire and rim is 495 kg (1091 lb).

  7. Install the tire and rim to the machine with 12 full nuts and hard washers.

  8. Tighten the full nuts that hold tire and rim (1) in position to a torque of 1210 ± 55 N·m (892.4 ± 40.6 lb ft).

  9. Use Tooling (A) to lower the front of the machine to the ground.

  1. Remove the wheel chocks.
