Personal injury can result if the machine moves while checking the service brakes. If the machine begins to move during the check, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake. |
Note: Use the correct oil viscosity in the hydraulic system according to ambient temperature and operating conditions.

Test the brakes on a dry, level surface. Make sure that the area around the machine is clear. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.

- Fasten the seat belt before you test the service brakes.
- Make sure that steering frame lock (1) is in the STORED position.
- Start the engine. Raise the bucket slightly.
- Place the transmission neutralizer lockout switch in the LOCKED position.
- Apply the service brakes and disengage the parking brake.
- Move transmission direction control switch (3) to the REVERSE position, and upshift gear speed switch (2) to the THIRD SPEED position.

- Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The machine should not move.
- Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Move the transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake.
- Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.

If the machine moved while testing the service brakes, inspect the service brake components for wear or damage. Repair or replace the worn or damaged service brake components as required before returning the machine to service. |
