Rework Procedure

NOTE: Part numbers listed in the rework procedure are for reference only. The parts will be direct shipped to the dealer from the factory and should not be ordered through the parts system.

NOTE: The fuel system is very sensitive to particle size. It is therefore imperative to adhere to all cleanliness requirements within this rework instruction, for example re-using dirty caps will have a detrimental effect on product durability.

NOTE: Parts must be inspected prior to use to ensure capping is intact and parts are clean and undamaged.

NOTE: All new components should remain bagged and capped until immediately before use.

NOTE: Any fuel system component that is removed or exposed should be capped with new, clean caps to prevent dirt ingress, e.g. male connector when low pressure pipe is removed.
Use anti contamination kit part No.278-4138.

Before attempting any work on the fuel system ensure that the engine is cleaned of any dirt that might contaminate the fuel system.

Clean up any spilt fuel before undertaking further work.

Check there is adequate clearance around all low pressure pipes, and that any clipping is in place and correctly orientated.

NO attempt should be made to clean / flush filter elements for re-use.

DO NOT PRE-FILL THE FILTERS.

Fuel can be hot after running. Care must be taken to ensure hot fuel does not come in contact with exposed skin. Allow engine to cool before undertaking any work.

1 SYSTEM FITTING

The field re-fit kit comprises of one secondary fuel filter assembly part No.311-2376.

1.1 Removal of existing components

The secondary fuel filter assembly should be removed by disconnecting the 3 quick connectors, indicated in Image 1.2.1. Depress the release buttons and pull the pipes from their spigot. Immediately plug the pipes with a new clean plug.
Where a boost pipe is fitted, loosen and disconnect the pipe via the nuts at the unions fitted into the cylinder head and filter head.
Remove the two bolts (6I-4709 & 6I-0260) from the secondary fuel filter assembly and carefully remove the filter assembly - see image 1.2.2
Retain the longer bolt (6I-4709) as this is to be reused to fit the replacement filter assembly
Image1.2.1
Image1.2.2

Only the secondary fuel filter assembly should be removed from the engine, all other low pressure fuel system components must be left on the engine.

1.2 Fitting the new filter assembly.

Assemble the spacer plate (part No. 311-2270) onto the filter head and hold in position using the original bolt (6I-4709) and new bolt (part No.6I-0254).
Position the assembly onto the engine as shown in image 1.3.1
Image1.3.1

Position the assembly onto the engine and tighten the two retaining bolts evenly to a torque of 22Nm +/- 5.5Nm.

1.3 Fitting of the Boost pipe (part No.311-2379) where applicable.

Re-fit the adaptor from the old filter head assembly to the new filter head assembly. (shown in image 1.4.1) Torque the adaptor to 18Nm +/- 2Nm. Then tighten both pipe end union fittings to a torque of 18Nm +/- 2Nm.

Prime the fuel system as directed in the systems operation test & adjust section ? ?Fuel system prime?.

Run the engine and check for fuel leakage, rectify as necessary.
