Bystanders can become trapped between the machine and implement when the operator is backing the machine to connect to an implement, causing personal injury or death. To prevent injury, do not allow anyone to hold the drawbar or insert the hitch pin while the machine is being maneuvered to attach equipment. Always engage the parking brake and stop the engine before inserting the hitch pin. Ensure that the surrounding area is free of any personnel before maneuvering to connect an implement. |
NOTICE |
---|
Regulations in some areas require brakes on towed equipment when operating on public roads. Before traveling on public roads, make sure you comply with all legal requirements. When towing equipment not equipped with brakes, do not exceed 16 km/h (10 mph) if towed equipment weighs more than the machine, and do not tow equipment weighing more than twice the machine's weight. |

Use the following procedure when you attach implements that are mounted to the drawbar:
- Adjust the swing stops on the drawbar support in order to secure the drawbar in a fixed position for transporting implements. Place the drawbar in a fixed position when you are using the PTO. Otherwise, allow the drawbar to swing when you pull ground engaging equipment. On the swing drawbar, position the swing stop bumpers to the desired amount of swing. On the standard drawbar, remove the stop bolts.
- Set the height of the drawbar to the low setting when you are using the PTO. If necessary, adjust the length of the drawbar.
- Position the implement at the correct height in order to permit the drawbar to couple correctly.
- Remove the drawbar pin and temporarily store the drawbar pin in a convenient location. The support on the drawbar for the safety chain can be used.
- Slowly inch the machine in the rearward direction until the pin hole in the drawbar is aligned with pin hole in the implement.
- Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.
- Insert the drawbar pin. Make sure that the retainer is latched.
- Install a safety chain between the machine and the implement when you are transporting an implement on a highway.
Safety Chain

When you are towing implements (1) on the highway, use a safety chain (2) . The minimum tensile strength for the safety chain should be at least equal to the gross weight of the implement. The safety chain will control the implement if the drawbar (3) becomes disconnected from the implement.
Place the chain through guide (4) in order to attach the safety chain to the machine. Next, place the chain around the lower plate of the drawbar support. Check the adjustment of the safety chain by driving the machine. Turn the machine in both directions in order to ensure that the chain does not bind. If necessary, adjust the chain in order to eliminate a chain that is too tight or a chain that is too loose.
See the implement's "Operator's Manual" for the weight of the implement. Also, look for the specifications for attaching the implement.
