CAT data link
The CAT data link is an input/output of the power train electronic control module (ECM) at contacts J1-3 and J1-9. The data link communicates with the following items: other electronic control modules, Caterpillar Monitoring System and diagnostic service tools. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of internal control circuits and connecting harness wiring. The data link is bidirectional. This allows the power train ECM to receive information. The power train ECM also sends information.
The power train ECM receives information via the CAT data link. Information is received from the following sources:
- Engine oil pressure from Caterpillar Monitoring System
Harness code information from Caterpillar Monitoring System
The power train ECM sends information via the CAT data link to the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Information is sent on the status of the following items:
- Gear Status
- Parking Brake Status
- Machine Speed
- Engine Speed
- Diagnostic Service Codes
All electronic controls that use the CAT data link have a module identifier (MID). The MID for the power train control is the number 081.
