Use Of 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group In 3114 And 3116 Cylinder Block Reconditioning{0672,0673,1201}

Usage:

Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3114 And 3116 Machine Engines

Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9047-01, "Installation Of 7C-6208 Cylinder Sleeve".

The Reference Special Instruction does not clearly define the use of the 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group when boring the cylinder block to install a 7C-6208 Cylinder Sleeve. The special instruction is being revised to clarify the use of the 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group. Make note of the information that follows in the Reference Special Instruction.

NOTE: The 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group is ONLY used when measuring the bores and honing. It is NOT to be used when boring the cylinders.

If the dimension of a cylinder, or cylinders, is to be accurately measured, a 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group and a STANDARD thickness cylinder head gasket MUST be installed over each cylinder that is to be measured. The correct installation of the STANDARD thickness cylinder head gasket, 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group, and cylinder head bolts will cause the cylinder bore to have the same dimensions that it would have if the cylinder head was installed and properly torqued.

NOTE: The installation of the 4C-4377 Stress Plate Group is REQUIRED before cylinder wall stress honing.
