The 8T8666 Connector Kit makes possible the replacement of the speed sensor connector on wiring harnesses used with Individual Clutch Modulation (ICM) Transmissions. This instruction gives the installation procedure for the connector kit.
Installing The Connector On The Harness
(1) Cut the old connector off the harness, cutting through all three wires about 100 mm (4") from the connector.
(2) Cut the black wire in the harness 50 mm (2") shorter than the orange wire. Cut the green wire in the harness 100 mm (4") shorter than the orange wire.
(3) With a 9S9150 or 8S1075 Crimping Tool, strip 5 mm (.25") of insulation from the end of each wire. Do not nick any strands of the wire.
(4) Slide one piece of heat-shrink tubing over each of the wires in the harness.
(5) Using the crimping tool, attach each of the harness wires to the corresponding wire [(1) orange, (2) black, (3) green] in the new connector assembly with a butt splice.
NOTICE |
---|
Crimp each end of the butt splice only once. |
(6) With the solder provided, solder each butt splice to the wires at both ends. Take care to place soldering gun (5) in firm contact with both wire (6) and butt splice (7), so that solder flows into joint (8).
(7) After the joints have cooled, slide the heat-shrink tubing over the butt splices. Heat the tubing with a match or with the soldering gun until it shrinks firmly around the wire and the butt splice.
(8) Tape the spliced area firmly with 1P0810 tape.
(9) Fasten the connector to the speed sensor.
(10) Secure the connector nut to the eye on the plastic boot, using the lock wire provided.
