Action Required
If a 7C8255 or 4P8165 Gasket leaks, disassemble the engine to allow access to the gasket. Inspect the spacer block to determine if 9U5177 Inserts have been installed in the 4 bolt holes. If 9U5177 Inserts have been installed, replace the leaking gasket with a new 7X7973 Gasket Kit, 1011287 Gasket, 1011286 Plate, and 4-6V2317 Bolts.
The following steps are required when installing the new gasket and plate:
A) Install the gasket dry and non-beaded side toward spacer deck.
B) Install plate on 9Y3592 Front Housing Cover using 4- 6V2317 Bolts and 4-9M1974 Washers. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 28 ± 7 N·m - standard torque.
NOTE: Gasket is not symmetrical and is installed in only one position.
NOTE: Install the new 1011287 Gasket with the non-beaded side toward the spacer deck.
If it is determined that the 9U5177 Inserts have not been installed, follow the steps below to install inserts into the spacer block:
1. Drill each bolt hole with a 8.33 mm (.328'1) dia. drill bit to a depth of 25.4 ± 1.6 mm. (1.0 ± .06 in.).
2. Thread each bolt hole with an 8T2789 Tap to a minimum depth of 18.3 mm. (.72 in.).
NOTE: Use thread lubricant during the threading operation.
3. Install four 9U5177 Inserts using an 8T2790 Tool.
4. Assemble the engine using the new gasket as noted above.
After performing the rework, stamp the letters "CG" next to the identification number on the engine identification plate to indicate the rework has been completed.
