Product Support Program For Installing A New Muffler And Hardware On Certain 416C, 426C, 428C, 436C And 438C Backhoe Loaders Caterpillar

NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4680" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Problem

A new muffler and hardware needs to be installed on certain 416C, 426C, 428C, 436C and 438C Backhoe Loaders. The muffler, exhaust stack, and seal clamp that was previously installed on some backhoe loaders to help provide some field data for validation. The failure rate of those parts has been such that they should all be removed from the affected machines.

1 - 1125090 Muffler Assembly - Turbocharged

1 - 1358167 Pipe - Extension

1 - 1358168 Clamp

1 - 1374499 Clamp

Action Required

Remove the muffler, seal clamp, and exhaust stack and replace with the current production 1125090 Muffler (turbocharged) or 1125089 Muffler (for naturally aspirated), U-Clamps, and exhaust stack. Scrap all the removed material.
