Check governor serial number plates on all of the following Governor Groups in parts stock. 7C4176, 7C6562, 7C8593, 7E0001, 7E0002, 7W5557, 7W8178, 9Y0178, 9Y1094, 9Y2675, 9Y2678, 9Y3833, 9Y4025, 9Y4148, 9Y7899 2. Replace 9Y0273 Gear Assemblies of the affected governor groups in parts stock, with the new 9Y0273 marked with "Blue Dye" stripes. Any of the governor assemblies with Serial Numbers up to 0009102 which do not have "RG" marks in the "LOT" columns on the governor serial number plates need to be updated. NOTE: Governor Serial Number Early governors had serial numbers in which the first four numbers denote the month and year of the governor's manufacture. Example: 038800025 Any of the early governors without "RG" marks on the governor serial number plates need to be updated. Later governors use an increasing sequence numbering system, using zeros at the beginning. Example: 0006750. NOTE: Identification mark in the "LOT" column. See the procedure for reworking both parts stock governors and affected product. ***** Affected Product ***** Inspection Procedure For Affected Product The governor serial number and the identification mark in the "LOT" column on the Governor Serial Number Plate, must be used to determine whether to replace the 9Y0273 Gear Assemblies. 1. Check governor serial number plates for the Governor Serial Numbers and Identification Marks. 2. Replace 9Y0273 Gear Assemblies with new 9Y0273 marked with "Blue Dye" stripes, on certain products as follows. Any of the governor assemblies with Governor Serial Numbers up to 0009102 which do not have either "RG' OR "R" marks in the "LOT" columns on the governor serial number plates, need to be updated. NOTE: All factory reworked governors have "RG" marks while some engines with 1CK and 2ZF serial number prefixes have "R" marks on them. ****** IMAGE: SEBE4278.00001.002 CAPTION: Illustration 2 - Governor Serial Number Plate 3. See the procedure for reworking both parts stock governors and affected product. Procedure For Reworking Both Parts Stock Governors And Affected Product NOTE: Only Steps No. 3 and 4 are required for parts stock governors. 1. Measure and record the original fuel setting. 2. Remove the governor from the engine. 3. Replace the affected 9Y0273 Gear Assembly. Torque the governor drive gear retaining bolt to 25 +- 7 N.m (18 +- .5 lb ft). NOTE: Assemble with short length, 8.43 mm (.332 in) of dowel pin in gear assembly, face down (toward housing). Be sure gear rotates freely on carrier bore. Be careful not to damage the "C" spring, by over compressing with the vise. 4. Stamp "RG" mark in the "LOT" column on the reworked governor's serial number plate. 5. Remove 9Y5925 Tube from the cylinder head and replace the wiper seal with new 7E0844 Seal. Adjust the fuel setting to the original setting recorded in Step 1.
