Engine Publications List Insert
The paper Insert for the Engine Publications List has a column on the right side called "Starting Grid". See Illustration 1. The references in this column give you the grid locations on the fiche where families (groups) of models on that fiche change.
It is easy to find marine transmissions. These models have names you know - 7241, 7251. Also, truck engines such as the 1100 Series and 1600 Series are easily found in the index on the fiche. However, servicemen tell us it is difficult to find some engines because the names such as 3208 do not tell what the engines are - truck, industrial or marine.
In Illustration 1 you see that each family of products on the Insert has a "Starting Grid" number. The top arrow on the illustration points to industrial engines. The first model at Grid D9 is 3145, followed by 3150, 3160 and 3208 - all industrial engines. The lower arrow points to Grid G12, the "Starting Grid" for medium duty truck engines. The first engine at G12 is 1140 followed by other 1100 Series Engines - and 3208.
Illustration 2 shows part of the microfiche index at the lower right corner of Fiche 1. Here the left arrow points to the 3208 Industrial Engine which follows 3145 at D9. The 3208 on the right is a Truck Engine (40S). In this illustration the names of the engines look the same, but the "Starting Grid" locations are different. The "Starting Grid" identifies the product families on the fiche.
