SUPPLEMENT: 10/31/79

ENGINE NEWS, NOVEMBER 15, 1978, PAGES 1 AND 2.

In the article "New Transmission Mounting Group Has Improved Design For Longer Service Life", there has been some changes to the 9N5331 Transmission Mounting Group for the Allison AT540 Transmissions used in 3208 and 1160 Truck Engines. The 9N5330 Adapter shown in the parts chart has been canceled and a new 9N5788 Adapter that is .106" (2.68 mm) longer is used. Also, the ten 9N2482 Bolts have been changed to 9N5794 Bolts which are longer. Change the last footnote under the chart to read, "* Canceled. For parts replacement, order one 9N5788 Adapter and one 9N5329 Plate".

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: The mounting group for Allison AT540 Transmissions used with 3208 and 1160 Truck Engines has been made stronger to give longer service life. The new mounting group has several design improvements:

... The 9L7868 Flexible Plate Retaining Ring is made of harder material. This will keep the bolts tight that hold the flywheel adapter to the flywheel assembly.
... The new input drive plate has a different design to increase the strength of the plate, especially in the area around the outside diameter of the flywheel adapter. Formerly, some conditions caused stress concentrations and possible failure of the drive plate in this area.
... A new 9N5330 Flywheel Adapter is used with the new input drive plate.

NOTE: Make sure the metal around the alignment mark on the input drive plate face of the flywheel adapter is not higher than the surface that makes contact with the input drive plate.

Adaptable To: The new transmission mounting group is adaptable to all earlier 3208 and 1160 Truck Engines equipped with Allison AT540 Transmissions.
