Gear Case Removal And Disassembly

Usage:

1. Drain lubricant from gear case and axle housing. Remove hydraulic motor from gear case adapter. Remove gear case-to-gear housing brace mounting bolts.

2. Shift gear case into high range and remove the (6) 3/8-16 thread gear case-to-carrier adapter mounting bolts. Carefully pull the gear case assembly from the carrier adapter and output shaft.

3. Remove pinion mounting bolt and remove gear case output shaft from carrier adapter.

4. Remove carrier adapter mounting bolts and remove adapter from carrier assembly.

5. Remove gear case output sleeve from the pinion.

6. Remove input sleeve, hydraulic motor adapter, and inspection cover from gear case.

7. Remove intermediate shaft bearing caps.

8. Remove cotter pin, nut, and washer from intermediate shaft and remove shaft and rear ball bearing from gear case.

9. Remove low range gear, high range gear, and bearing spacer from gear case. Remove front intermediate shaft ball bearing from gear case.

10. Remove shift rod detent plug, spring, and ball from gear case. Slide shift rod to the low range position and swing the shift fork and gear into the center of case and remove the sliding low speed gear from the case.

11. Remove snap ring from input shaft and snap ring from the shaft bearing outer race. Drive input shaft and bearing into the case and remove from case through carrier adapter pilot bore.

12. Remove lockwire and screw from shift fork and carefully slide the shift rod out of gear case.

13. Inspect the shift rod and carrier adapter oil seals for wear and replace if required.

14. Inspect the splines on the shafts, gears, and sleeves for cracks, chips, or excessive wear.

15. Inspect the gears for cracked, chipped, or worn gear teeth.

16. Inspect the ball bearings and needle roller bearing for cracked races, discoloration, or excessive wear and replace if required.
