Machine Swerving Is Excessive

Usage:

- AT6
System Operation Description:

Truck swerves excessively in straight lanes compared to other trucks running the same lane. Truck will also drive slower. All trucks will experience a certain degree of swerving at high speeds. The key is to identify if one truck is worse than the others.

Test Step 1. PERFORM THE STEERING CALIBRATION

Perform the steering calibration procedure using Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET).

Results:

  • OK - Truck not swerving. - STOP

  • Not OK - Proceed to Test Step 2.

Test Step 2. INSPECT STEERING SYSTEM

  1. Perform the Front Wheel - Align procedure. Refer to System Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, UENR2220, "793F CMD Off-Highway Truck Hydraulic Fan and Steering System."

  2. Perform the Troubleshooting to verify that there is no brake drag occurring. Refer to System Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, UENR2210, "793F CMD Off-Highway Truck/Tractor Braking System" - Brakes Drag.

Results:

  • OK - Truck not swerving. - STOP

  • Not OK - Truck still swerving. Contact Caterpillar technical support.
