3406C (8PN) Truck Engines Equipped With Inlet Air Heater
Investigation indicates that excessive lamp load on the indicator lamp circuit can cause the operation of the Flame Start system to be unpredictable. Excessive lamp load can be caused by the installation of a lamp that has a wattage rating higher than the specified 2 Watt (at 12 volts) rating.
Experience shows that installing a lamp with a 3 Watt rating will cause unpredictable operation of the system. The excessive lamp load can cause varied symptoms. The same Flame Start system can exhibit different symptoms each time the system is powered.
When troubleshooting a Flame Start system for inconsistent operation on a 3406C (8PN) Truck Engine, check the rating of the indicator lamp. The rating of the lamp should not exceed 2.2 Watts at 12 volts. The 8D-1429 Lamp (Bulb), which consumes less the 1 watt at 12 volts, works well in the Flame Start system.
