Fan - Inspect

Usage:

794 AC HRT
The fan assembly should be inspected immediately following any event that may compromise the structural integrity of the fan. Such events may include, but not be limited to:

  • machine collision

  • machine rollover

  • fan contact with standing water

  • excessive noise or vibration

  • loss of cooling capacity

  • Anytime the radiator or engine are removed

Extended fan exposure to abrasive or corrosive environments such as:

  • dust storms

  • salt water spray

  • any physical fan contact during operation

  • overspeed

  • fan installed backward

Inspect

Note: In order to access the areas required to perform this procedure, a portable access system (ladder, stair assembly, man lift, or other portable access system) that is suitable and compliant to local regulations may be necessary.

Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".

Inspect the fan (1) for the following conditions:

  • Missing, twisted, cracked, gouged, or dented blades.

  • Evidence of fan contact with shroud, cutoff plates, or other.

  • Evidence of separation of laminated sections.

  • Loose or missing rivets.

  • Excessive abrasion or corrosion of blades and rivets.

Note: When radiator or engine are removed, Perform a visual inspection after rebuild and every 18,000 hours. Replace fan, if necessary.

Cleaning Instructions

  1. Clean debris off first before the visual inspection.

  2. Use a damp cloth with water in order to clean off debris.

Note: Never use an abrasive to clean the fan surface.

Replacement

Note: Fans cannot be repaired. Replace fan between 52,000 hours and 54,000 hours.

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, UENR5575 for information on replacing the fan.
