False Logging Of 100-01 Low Oil Pressure, And 100-11 Very Low Oil Pressure Diagnostic Codes

Usage:

3176 (7LG7500-15999) Truck Engines

Reference: Service Manual Module, Electronic Troubleshooting 3176 Diesel Truck Engine, SENR5112-01.

Problem: False logging of 100-01 Low Oil Pressure and 100-11 Very Low Oil Pressure Diagnostic Codes may be caused by two separate problems. The first problem is the failure of the 7X1602 Oil Pressure Sensor. This sensor may be susceptible to failure due to vibration. The 7X1602 Sensor was factory installed on 3176 Truck Engines 7LG7500-8720. The 3E7570 Oil Pressure Sensor, installed on 3176 Truck Engines 7LG8721-Up, is NOT susceptible to vibration.

The second problem that may cause the false logging is pressure oscillations in the lubrication system. The oscillations are not visible on a mechanical oil pressure gauge and DO NOT cause an engine problem. The sensitivity of the engine electronics may cause intermittent false logging.

Solution: A 1077142 Vibration Dampened Oil Pressure Sensor is released as a service replacement for the 7X1602 Sensor. The 1077142 Sensor is the same as the 3E7570 Sensor except the 1077142 Sensor has a Deutsch 3 Pin HD connector and the 3E7570 Sensor has a Deutsch 3 Pin DT connector. DO NOT replace a 3E7570 Sensor for false logging of Low/Very Low Oil Pressure diagnostic codes.

New personality modules with an improved oil pressure sensing strategy are released for service replacement. The personality modules are factory installed on 3176 Truck Engines 7LG16000-Up. See Chart A for the correct personality module part number.

NOTE: Prior to replacing the sensor or the personality module, verify that actual low oil pressure does NOT exist. See the Reference. Follow procedure P-527, "Oil Pressure Circuit Test" to identify the problem.
