Some 4C4462 Sleeve Removal And Installation Groups For Unit Injectors May Contain 4C5562 Reamer Assemblies That Are Dimensionally Incorrect

Usage:

1.1 Liter Family Of Engines

Some 4C4462 Sleeve Removal And Installation Groups may contain 4C5562 Reamer Assemblies that are dimensionally incorrect for cutting the injector cone seat on unit injectors. The shoulder of the 4C5563 Reamer Shank, which controls reamer cutting depth, may allow the reamer to cut the injector cone seat too deep into the sleeve.

To determine if the shoulder depth of 4C5563 Reamer Shank is correct, do the following procedure.

1. Remove 4C5564 Reamer Head (2) from the 4C5562 Reamer Assembly.

2. Measure the distance from the end of the shank to the shoulder, dimension (A), which controls the reamers cutting depth. See Illustration 1.

Illustration 1. 4C5562 Reamer Assembly.

3. If the correct shoulder depth of 60.30 mm (2.374 ") is measured, assemble the reamer. No further action is necessary.

4. If the incorrect shoulder depth of 68.71 mm (2.705 ") is measured, call the Caterpillar Service Technology Group (CSTG) on one of the following toll free numbers:

800-542-8665 Outside Illinois
800-541-8665 Inside Illinois
800-523-8665 Canada

5. A collar (3) and setscrew (4) will be provided free of charge. When assembled to the reamer shank, the collar will provide the correct shoulder depth dimension.

6. Assemble the collar as shown in Illustration 2 and measure the new shoulder depth, dimension (B). If the dimension measures 60.30 mm (2.374 "), assemble the reamer assembly. The tool is now ready to be used.

7. If the new dimension (B) is not correct, call CSTG again.
