ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS2585, "MCGFlash User Guide"
ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS3666, "Software Activation for the AccuGrade® Display"
New AccuGrade® software version 11 for the AccuGrade CD700 is now available on SISWeb. This version of the AccuGrade software adds the following features:
- Excavator support for Single GPS and ATS
- 2-D features
- Split screen view
- Sky plot for GPS diagnostics
- Blade roll on Motor Graders
Also, the new software has improved performance on 3-D systems that have a cross slope on Motor Graders.
The software for the display includes new firmware:
- Version v1.40 firmware for MS980 receivers
- Version v3.81 firmware for MS990 receivers
- Version v1.10 for MT900
- Version v1.99 for LR410
New Features
Single 3-D (GPS and ATS) Hex Support
AccuGrade for Excavators now supports Single GPS and Single ATS.
Note: Caterpillar does not recommend Single 3-D for machines that are working on a moving platform or for machines with tracks that must be moved in order to still receive guidance.
2-D Excavator Support
The "Depth and Slope" configuration gives features that are similar to those features that are offered on the CB410 display. Yet, the features are displayed on the larger screen of the CD700 display. This configuration provides clear guidance and a functionality when GPS is not available.
Split Profile and Cross Section View for Excavators
Illustration 1 | g01831947 |
View of a split cross section and profile on Excavators |
Support has been provided for a view of split cross section and profile on Excavators. This feature allows the user to view both the cross section and the profile at the same time.
Excavator Bucket Center Guidance
This feature adds support for bucket center guidance for Excavators. This feature offers better guidance when working on side slopes. Bucket center guidance is available for both 2-D mode and 3-D modes.
Sky Plot
Illustration 2 | g01751670 |
This feature allows the operator to view the currently available satellites.
Rolling the Blade on Motor Graders
Illustration 3 | g01661297 |
View of blade rolling on Motor Graders |
This feature allows the operator to roll the blade while operating the machine with accurate grading results.
Note: A blade pitch sensor must be installed. Use the 336-4806 Sensor and Mounting kit. A mainfall sensor is also required.
Modified Limits to the Range for Auto Control for Dozers and Motor Graders
Depending on the size of the machine, this feature has automatic ranges that change. Large machines allow a wider automatic range versus small machines. Also, the range can be modified. This modification is dependent on the needs of the application.
2-D Remote Switch Functionality
The remote increment switch or the remote decrement switch can now be used to adjust elevation and the slope on the following list of applications: laser, sonic and slope. Previously, this adjustment was performed only on the display.
Change in Instruction for Valve Calibration
In order to produce more precise tables for valve calibration, a change has been made to the instruction in the routine for valve calibration of AccuGrade systems. When the user sets the limit for the minimum height for the valve calibration, the user will be instructed to position the blade approximately 0.05 m (0.20 ft) above the ground. This spacing will ensure that the blade does not hit the ground during the routine for automatic valve calibration. Hitting the ground with the blade may corrupt the table for valve calibration.
Dual GPS CAN Bus Configuration
This feature allows a separate CAN bus between two GPS receivers. This configuration is adjusted under the "GPS Receiver Configuration" menu.
AccuGrade Indicate Only Option
This feature allows the installer to configure the system as an indicate only system for Dozer and Motor Grader machine types. This feature allows the system to continue to give indicate cut/fill and horizontal guidance. If there are active diagnostics that are registered by the A4M1 ECM, the system will provide the information with this new feature.
Extra Diagnostic Support Information
This features allows for extra diagnostic information to be obtained from AccuGrade Office with wireless. The file includes the following information: settings for the radio, measurements for the machine, table for valve calibration and machine settings.
MT900 Vertical Error Correction
After upgrading to version 11, the elevation of the blade will be lower by 15 mm (0.60 inch) when the system is not used in bench mode.
3-D Cross Slope Acceleration Improvement on Motor Graders
This feature uses a new algorithm that reduces the dip that occurs on ATS systems or single GPS systems that use a cross slope. This dip can occur if the system is in auto mode when the machine starts from a stand still.
MS990 Firmware
Version 3.81 for the MS990 GNSS Receiver has the following features and improvements:
- Sky plot that is used in Accugrade
- Improved position solution
- Improved handling of correction messages
- Improved signal tracking
MS980 Firmware
Version 1.40 for the MS980 GPS Receiver has been upgraded in order to enable the sky plot feature that is used in AccuGrade.
MT900 Firmware
Version 1.10 for the MT900 improves operation with AccuGrade.
LR410 Firmware
Version 1.99 for the LR410 laser receiver has a more reliable connection to the CAN bus.
Note: CR2400 radios that are used with AccuGrade version 11 must use version 5.02 to operate properly. For an upgrade through MCGFlash, use a radio service cable and the reference that is listed above.
Note: For a possible free upgrade, check the "Software Support Option" date. If the date is at least 15November 2008, the display can be upgraded. If the date is before 15November 2008, a new option key is required. A complimentary service support key is available through 15November 2009. An option key can be obtained at the following web site:

(1) "Downloads" |
Excluding the radio, the minimum versions of firmware are stored on the display under "upgrade firmware".
The latest firmware is available on the section for downloads on SIS. The "Downloads" section is accessed by clicking on the "Downloads" link (1) on SIS. Refer to Illustration 4.
This download is a self-extracting zip file that contains all the software in current production for AccuGrade 3-D version 11 on Motor Graders, Track-Type Tractors, Excavators, Wheel Tractor-Scrapers, and Compactors.
Additional File Information     | |
---|---|
File Type     | Usage     |
.bin     | Operating System files named: eboot fpga_cmb nk     |
.sg2     | Update display firmware     |
.s     | Update sensor components through the display     |
.fls     | Update sensor components through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET)     |
Once the software is extracted, the software is broken into three main folders with sub-folders in order to help clarify the use of the different file types. The software may be in two different file types if the component can be updated through the display (*.s) as well as through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (*.fls).
When you upgrade to version 11, there is a an operating system upgrade and a new .sg2 file. There is also a power supply code upgrade when you move from V10.01 to V11. The pre-update .mch and .dsp files are automatically restored to the display. However, save the files to the compact flash card before upgrading. The files (.bin, .sg2, .s) in Table 2 need to be on the root folder of the card. Turn off the power to the machine. Install the card in the display and then repower the machine. Press the display power button and you will be prompted to update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Folder Structure of the Self-extracting Zip File
Display - Contains the display firmware (*.SG2).
Radio - Contains the Radio folders that have instructions and firmware in order to update the radio. A radio service cable and MCGFlash are required in order to flash the radio.
Sensors - Contains two subfolders, which are Cat ET Flashable and Display Flashable. The AccuGrade components for the Excavator system must be upgraded via the display. Some of the AccuGrade components can be flashed with Cat ET and will use a *.fls file type. The display can be used in order to upgrade most AccuGrade components by entering the "Upgrade Software" menu on the display.
Valve Module - Contains firmware for valve modules.
