Start By:

  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: In order to remove the balancer, the engine must be removed from the machine. The engine should be mounted in a suitable stand and placed in the inverted position.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Ensure that number one piston is at the top center position. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Fuel System" for the correct procedure.

    Note: The bolts that secure the balancer unit to the cylinder block are different lengths. Make a note of the position of the bolts. The bolts must be installed in the original position.

  1. Remove bolts (1) from balancer unit (3) to cylinder block (2) .

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Movement of the counterweight can cause personal injury.

  1. Install tooling (A) to balancer unit (3) .

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to the balancer unit. Support the weight of balancer unit (3). The weight is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

  1. Use the suitable lifting device in order to remove the balancer unit from the cylinder block.

  1. Do not remove dowels (4) unless the dowels are damaged.
