Think Safety |
Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly.
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance, or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the Safety Alert Symbol and followed by a Signal Word such as “DANGER”, “WARNING”, or “CAUTION”. The Safety Alert “WARNING” label is shown below.
A non-exhaustive list of operations that may cause product damage are identified by "NOTICE" labels on the product and in this publication.
Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. The warnings in this publication and on the product are therefore, not all inclusive. If a tool, procedure, work method, or operating technique that is not recommended by Caterpillar is used, the operator must be sure that the procedures are safe. The operator must also be sure that the product will not be damaged or made unsafe by any unspecified procedures.

Information
Wear a hard hat, protective glasses, and other protective equipment, as required. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can snag on controls or on other parts of the equipment. Make sure that all protective guards and all covers are secured in place on the equipment.
Know the appropriate work site hand signals and the personnel that are authorized to give the hand signals. Accept hand signals from one person only.
Obey all local regulations for the disposal of liquids.
Do not allow unauthorized personnel on the equipment.
Unless you are instructed otherwise, perform maintenance with the equipment in the servicing position. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the procedure for placing the equipment in the servicing position.
Crushing Prevention and Cutting Prevention
Support the equipment properly before you perform any work or maintenance beneath that equipment. Do not depend on the hydraulic cylinders to hold up the equipment. Equipment can fall if a control is moved, or if a hydraulic line breaks.
Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.
Safety Icon Nomenclature
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking. When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component. Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed. |
To avoid injury do not stand on or between implement and machine while operating lift control. |

Introduction
- The Quick Drain Pump Group is easy to use, portable pump to allow efficient, quick, and clean way to drain engine oil, anywhere, anytime.
- Use Pump Group to perform quick evacuation of Engine oil or Transmission fluid on Earthmoving machines via HSOC (High-Speed Oil Change) fittings, without having to bring the machine into the workshop.
- Self-priming electric pump with bronze gears, packaged in a light case with handle for improved protection and easy transport.
- Completed by On/Off switch, cable with integrated fuse and battery clips.
- Also included is tubing for suction and drain/discharge lines and compatible nozzle 126-7539 for HSOC engine oil fitting (PTO nozzle optional).
- Can be powered by 24V batteries on the machine.
Applications
The Quick Drain Pump Group is intended for any machine with a C13 engine or smaller, where the service panel is equipped with High-Speed fittings.
Using the Quick Drain Pump Group creates significant time savings. Some examples are as follows:
- Over 20 minutes time savings to drain engine oil (DEO) on a D6T Track Type Tractor
- Over 60 minutes time savings to drain transmission fluid (PTO) on a D6 Track Type Tractor
- Over 30 minutes time savings to drain engine oil (DEO) on a 966M Medium Wheel Loader
- Over 25 minutes time savings to drain engine oil (DEO) on a 16M3 Motor Grader

Inspection
Check that there has been no damage to the pump or hoses during transportation or storage. Ensure that electrical cable is in good condition. Verify that the available electrical power supply corresponds to the specification requirements.
NOTICE |
---|
It is recommended that the oil be drained warm so that particles are suspended and drained rather than settling and being left in pan to recirculate. |
NOTICE |
---|
The DC powered pump provided with the Quick Drain Pump Group is designed to operate on 24 VDC. Use the supplied 9 ft long electrical cable to supply power to the pump from a 24 VDC battery. A 10 amp fuse is installed to protect the motor in case of electrical short. |
NOTICE |
---|
Voltage drop in the cable varies depending on the distance from the battery to the pump and the gauge of the wire used. If the distance is greater than 9 ft, refer to National, International, or Local Electrical codes to ensure that the wire is of the correct size for this application. |
NOTICE |
---|
Follow the applicable local regulations and laws, and government guidelines to collect and discard used engine oil. |
Operating Instructions
- Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature
- Shut off Engine when oil is sufficiently warm (>100°F).
- Connect the connector at the end of the Quick Drain Pump Group suction hose to HSOC (High-Speed Oil Change) fitting located inside the Service panel of the machine being drained.
- Place Quick Drain Pump Group discharge hose into container intended to receive used engine oil
- Ensure that the Quick Drain Pump Group switch is in the OFF (0) position
- Connect the black and red alligator clips to the 24V battery terminals (supplied at the end of the electrical cable) observing positive and negative polarity
- When ready, activate the Quick Drain Pump via the toggle switch
- Stay near the pump during the evacuation / draining process. It should take 3-5 minutes depending on the size of the engine oil compartment on the machine. Do not run the pump dry.
- Upon completion of draining the oil from the machine – or to interrupt the drain process – deactivate the Quick Drain Pump via the toggle switch
- Remove the alligator clips from the 24V battery terminals
- Disconnect HSOC fittings from the engine service panel, and allow oil to drain freely into the oil container via the discharge hose
Note: Clean any dust or debris found on the dust caps of the HSOC fittings before placing them back.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
The Quick Drain Pump Group does not contain any serviceable parts.
The following Troubleshooting Guide is provided to offer basic diagnostic assistance when you encounter abnormal service from your Quick Drain Pump Group.
Condition | Possible Causes | Fix |
Fuse blows (opens) | Oil too cold | Warm up oil |
Wiring short circuit | Inspect wire harness for damage | |
High pressure at pump | Make sure hoses are clear | |
Make sure hoses are not kinked | ||
Motor does not turn | Fuse blown | See above |
Wiring compromised | Check battery connection for voltage. Ensure that the alligator clips are fully secured. | |
Little or no flow | Motor not turning | See above |
Oil too cold | Warm up oil | |
HSOC Quick connector (126-7539) not plugged in | Fully insert quick connector until it "clicks" | |
Hoses plugged/kinked | Clear and straighten hoses | |
Excessive dirt in strainer | Clean strainer |
Storage
Pump should be stored in a clean, dry location to prevent rust or corrosion. Hoses should be completely drained and open ends properly capped.
Environmental Disposal
Do not dispose of pumps into regular waste. Pumps that are no longer usable, must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally correct manner.
