Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
Cat® Product Link (PL641 and PL631) devices with 2016A or 2016B On-board firmware may report excessive hours on certain machines that are listed above. PL641 and PL631 devices are not shutting down upon key off, resulting in them accumulating more Service Meter Hour (SMH) than actual engine run time. This action can lead to incorrect hours being reported in VisionLink.
This issue can also potentially lead to draining the battery of an asset due to Product Link device remaining constantly ON while the keyswitch is turned to the OFF position.
Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but Interim Corrective Action (ICA) has not been determined. When this issue occurs, contact Cat Technical Communicator (TC) for further support.
