(2) Typical rail spalling

The new design has more steel in the link windows and in the link strut to reduce stresses that lead to cracking. The new design also has a larger radius at each end of the rail to help reduce roller impacts that may lead to rail spalling. See Illustration 3.

Table 1
New Part Number     Description     Former Part Number
378-8241     Track Link, RH     8E-7405
378-8242     Track Link, LH     8E-7406
424-0842     Track Link As (39 section)     6I-9668
424-0843     Track Link As (40 section)     6I-9670
424-0844     Track Link As (41 section)     6I-9671
424-0847     Track Link As (45 section)     8E-9037

The new link is a direct replacement for the old, and uses the same track pin, seal, bushing, thrust ring, track shoe, bolt, and nut as the old. The new link also uses the same track press tooling as the old.

The new link has the same link rail height and wear characteristics as the old link, and therefore uses the same Custom Track Service (CTS) wear charts.

For field repairs of existing track, it is acceptable to mix old and new link part numbers in a track.

The new links will begin to be phased into Service Parts, as well as East Peoria, Grenoble, and Brazil factory tractor assembly throughout the remainder of 2013.
