6S-3285 Duo-Cone Seal Gp  The rubber toric seals and all the contacting surfaces must be clean and dry at assembly. Before assembly, apply a thin layer of oil to the contacting surfaces of the metal seal rings. The seal rings must be assembled square. The rubber toric seal should not bulge and the rubber toric seal should not twist. Refer to Special Instruction, SEHS8364, "Assembly and Installation of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals" 
6S-7715 Thrust Washer  Install the thrust washer with the groove facing the roller. 
7D-9749 O-Ring Seal  Lubricate the bore lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Minimum is 0.25 mm (0.010 inch).
Maximum is 1.23 mm (0.048 inch)
The clear plug must not be recessed below the surface of the stopper assembly. Install the clear plug so that the end is even with the stopper assembly. The clear plug can extend up to 0 to 5 mm (0.0 to 0.2 inch) out of the stopper assembly.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to lift one side of the machine.

  2. Use Tooling (B) to support the machine. Remove Tooling (A).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury or death can result from grease under pressure.

    Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death.

    Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.

    Loosen the relief valve one turn only.

    If track does not loosen, close the relief valve and contact your Caterpillar dealer.


  4. Turn relief valve (2) counterclockwise in order to open relief valve (2). This will loosen the track assembly.

  5. Use two people to remove track roller guard (3). The weight of track roller guard (3) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

  6. Repeat Step 5 for the inside track roller guard.

  7. Remove track guide guard (4).

  8. Repeat Step 7 for the inside track guide guard.

  9. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C). Position Tooling (C ) under track roller assembly (5). The weight of track roller assembly (5) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

  10. Remove bolts (6). Use Tooling (C) to remove track roller assembly (5).

  11. If necessary, repeat Steps 9 and 10 for remaining track roller assemblies (5).

  1. Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to position track roller assembly (5). The weight of track roller assembly (5) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).

  2. Install bolts (6).

    Note: Refer to Table 7 for torque specifications for bolts (6).
