  1. Install bearing cages (10) , (16) , and (21) .

Note: Do not install any shims at this time.

  1. Install bolts (9) , (15) , and (20) . Tighten bolts (9) , (15) , and (20) until the bolts are finger tight.

  1. Tighten two of bolts (9) , (15) , and (20) to a torque of 34 N·m (300 lb in).

  1. Rotate the center shaft for three revolutions in order to properly seat the bearings.

  1. Repeat 19 and 20until the torque on bolts (9) , (15) , and (20) stabilizes.

  1. Loosen bolts (9) , (15) , and (20) and rotate the center shaft for three revolutions.

  1. Tighten bolts (20) to a torque of 3.4 N·m (30 lb in).

  1. Rotate the center shaft for three revolutions.

  1. Repeat 23 and 24 until the torque on bolts (20) stabilizes.

  1. Torque bolts (20) to a torque of 6.8 N·m (60 lb in).

  1. Rotate the center shaft for three revolutions.

  1. Repeat 26 and 27 until the torque on bolts (20) stabilizes.

  1. Repeat steps 23 through 28 for the remaining bearing cages.

  1. Use Tooling (K) in order to measure the gap between the bearing cage (21) and the housing at two places that are 180 degrees from each other. Average the two measurements of the gap and add 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) to the result. This value equals the required thickness for the shims.

  1. Repeat Step 30 for the other remaining cages.

  1. Remove the bolts and the bearing cages.
