Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure.

Note: The callouts in the Specifications section do not match the callouts in the Remove and Install sections.

------ WARNING! ------

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.

Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.

Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all harness assemblies, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, thoroughly clean the exterior of the components. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

  3. Remove bolt (7) and the plate. Remove pin (6). Remove sleeves (5). Remove tilt cylinder (3). Repeat for the opposite end of tilt cylinder (3). The weight of tilt cylinder (3) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install tilt cylinder (3) in the reverse order of removal.

------ WARNING! ------

When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could result in personal injury or death.

  1. Place the bulldozer tilt cylinder onto Tooling (A) for Disassembly and Assembly.

    (1) Use Tooling (E) for removal and installation of the retaining rings and the bearings.

    (2) Apply Tooling (C) to the threads of the head. Tighten the head to a torque of 600 ± 130 N·m (443 ± 96 lb ft).

    (3) Tighten the bolt to a torque of 1050 ± 150 N·m (774 ± 111 lb ft).

    (4) Lubricate seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.
