The new 356-5212 Bolt is a direct replacement for 5J-5794 Bolt and 338-4562 Bolt. The new bolt is adaptable back to the first production of the listed machines. The change is effective at the factory with serial numbers listed in Table 1

Follow the procedure below in order to secure the rocker arms with the new bolts.

  1. Lubricate the new 356-5212 Bolt threads and rocker arm shaft to bolt interface with clean engine oil before assembly.

  1. Tighten the bolts in sequence 2,3,1,4. Refer to Illustration 1

  1. Torque the bolts to 55 ± 5 N·m (41 ± 4 lb ft).

  1. Retighten the bolts to 55 ± 5 N·m (41 ± 4 lb ft)

  1. Turn the bolts in sequence 2,3,1,4 to 60° ± 5°
The bolt can be reused multiple times, but the bolt should be inspected before each reuse. Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8301, "Inspection and Reuse of Critical Fasteners Used in All Engines".
