C1.5 and C2.2 Generator Set Engines Caterpillar

Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Usage:

C1.5 NCA

Removal Procedure

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: The three cylinder and the four cylinder engines have different exhaust manifolds. The removal procedure is similar for all models.

    Typical example

  1. Loosen nuts (4) and bolts (5) .

Note: In order to prevent distortion of the exhaust manifold, loosen the outer fasteners first.

  1. Remove nuts (4) and bolts (5) .

  1. Remove exhaust manifold (3) from cylinder head (1) .

  1. Remove gasket (2) from cylinder head (1) .

  1. Remove any remaining gasket material and carbon from the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold. Be careful not to damage the mating surface on the cylinder head or the mating surface on the exhaust manifold.

Note: If necessary, remove the exhaust manifold studs from the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: The three cylinder and the four cylinder engines have different exhaust manifolds. The installation procedure is similar for all models.

Illustration 2g01198208

Typical example

Note: If necessary, install the exhaust manifold studs in the cylinder head.

  1. Install a new gasket (2) on cylinder head (1) .

Note: Do not use any sealant on the exhaust manifold gasket.

  1. Place exhaust manifold (3) in position on cylinder head (1) .

  1. Install nuts (4) and bolts (5) .

  1. Tighten nuts (4) and bolts (5) to a torque of 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Note: On three cylinder engines, tighten the two inner fasteners first. On four cylinder engines, tighten the four inner fasteners first.
