- Track-Type Tractor:
- D8N (S/N: 9TC1-UP; 1XJ1-UP; 5TJ1-UP; 7TK1-UP)
- D8R Series II (S/N: AKA1213-UP; 6YZ325-329 and 331-UP)
- D8R (S/N: 7XM5094-UP; 9EM1213-UP)
Description of Change: Idler guards are available for the front and the rear idler on the D8R and D8N Track-Type Tractor. Idler guards extend the life of links, rollers, and idlers by reducing the recirculation of dirt in the undercarriage. Idler guards reduce compaction of material in the undercarriage. Less compaction helps maintain proper loose track adjustment. This also reduces the chance of galling of the tracks. Idler guards help the front, the middle and rear rollers to wear more evenly. This reduces the need for the rollers to be rotated between the front position, the rear position, and the middle position.
Adaptable To: Idler guards directly bolt onto the D8R (S/N: AKA1213-UP; 6YZ325-329 and 331-UP; 7XM5094-UP; 9EM1213-UP). Parts are available for retrofitting the rear idler guards on the D8N (S/N: 5TJ1-UP; 1XJ1-UP; 9TC1-UP; 7TK1-UP).
Installation of Idler Guards
The following instructions describe the basic procedure for the installation of idler guards. Make sure that you understand the instruction before you complete this procedure.
Safety
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking. When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component. Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed. |
Personal injury can result from flame cutting or welding on painted areas. The effect of gasses from burned paint is a hazard to the person doing the cutting or welding. Do not flame cut or weld on painted areas. |
Personal injury or death can result from fumes, gases and ultraviolet rays from the weld arc. Welding can cause fumes, burn skin and produce ultraviolet rays. Keep your head out of the fumes. Use ventilation, exhaust at the arc, or both, to keep fumes and gases from your breathing area. Wear eye, ear and body protection before working. Protect yourself and others; read and understand this warning. Fumes and gases can be dangerous to your health. Ultraviolet rays from the weld arc can injure eyes and burn skin. Electric shock can cause death. Read and understand the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's safety practices. Do not touch live electrical parts.
