Incorrect Transmission Control Lever Response - Check

Usage:

943 03Y
Test Step 1. Identify response.

  1. Determine the response of the transmission control lever.

  1. Start the engine with the transmission control lever in any position but PARK.

Expected Result:

The machine begins to move.

Results:

  • Yes - Proceed to test step 2.

  • No - Proceed to test step 3.

Test Step 2. The start/vent valve is stuck in the reset position.

  1. Remove the valve spool and check for contamination and/or damage.

  1. Check for a missing plug at the end of the speed/brake spool.

  1. Repair the valve or replace the valve, as required.

Reference: Refer to Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Operate/Brake Spool System".

Expected Result:

The original problem is resolved.

Results:

  • OK - Stop.

  • Not OK - The cause of the problem is uncertain. Please call the technical staff with the information that you have gathered so far. Stop.

Test Step 3. Identify response.

  1. Move the governor control lever into HIGH IDLE.

  1. Move the transmission control lever to the PARK position.

  1. Move the transmission control lever into either FORWARD or REVERSE. Then move the lever back into PARK.

Expected Result:

The tracks do not stop.

Results:

  • Yes - Proceed to test step 4.

  • No - Proceed to test step 5.

Test Step 4. Check the linkage.

  1. Check the control linkage adjustment.

  1. Adjust the linkage, as required.

Reference: Refer to Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Mechanical Adjustment of Hydrostatic Transmission Linkage".

Expected Result:

The original problem is resolved.

Results:

  • OK - Stop.

  • Not OK - The cause of the problem is uncertain. Please call the technical staff with the information that you have gathered so far. Stop.

Test Step 5. Identify response.

  1. Verify that the governor control lever is in HIGH IDLE.

  1. Move the transmission control lever into FORWARD. Then move the lever into REVERSE.

Expected Result:

The machine has sudden movement in one direction, but not in the other direction.

Results:

  • Yes - Proceed to test step 6.

  • No - Proceed to test step 7.

Test Step 6. Check the linkage.

  1. Check the adjustment of the linkage for the pilot valve.

  1. Adjust the linkage, as required.

Reference: Refer to Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Mechanical Adjustment of Hydrostatic Transmission Linkage" or Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Transmission External Linkage Adjustment".

Expected Result:

The original problem is resolved.

Results:

  • OK - Stop.

  • Not OK - The cause of the problem is uncertain. Please call the technical staff with the information that you have gathered so far. Stop.

Test Step 7. Identify response.

  1. Move the transmission control lever up the FORWARD leg of the "V".

  1. Move the transmission control lever up the REVERSE leg of the "V".

Expected Result:

The lever moves further along one leg than the lever moves along the opposite leg, before the machine begins to move.

Results:

  • Yes - Proceed to test step 8.

  • No - The cause of the problem is uncertain. Please call the technical staff with the information that you have gathered so far. Stop.

Test Step 8. Check the linkage.

  1. If the distance the lever is moving along either leg of the "V" is more than 25 mm (1.0 inch), make an adjustment to the EXTERNAL linkage between the lever and the transmission.

  1. If this adjustment is already correct, check the INTERNAL linkage beneath the top cover of the transmission.

  1. Adjust any linkages, as required.

Reference: Refer to Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Procedure for Performing All External In-Chassis Linkage Adjustments" or Power Train Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, SENR3193, "Transmission External Linkage Adjustment".

Stop.
