Engine Oil Filter Base - Remove

Removal Procedure

All Engines


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

    Remote mounted engine oil filter base

  1. If necessary, remove engine oil filter (5) from engine oil filter base (2) .

  1. Make a mark on hoses (3) and (4) in order to identify the location of the hoses for installation.

  1. Disconnect hose (3) and hose (4) from engine oil filter base (2). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and engine oil filter base (2) from the engine.

  1. Make a mark on the opposite end of hoses (3) and (4) in order to identify the location of the hoses for installation.

  1. Remove hose (3) and hose (4) from engine oil manifold (7). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Loosen nut (6) and remove engine oil manifold (7) from the engine.

  1. Remove the O-ring seal from engine oil manifold (7) and use a new O-ring seal for replacement.

  1. Remove engine oil filter (3) from engine oil cooler (2) .

  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Remove two hose clamps (4) and remove the two hoses from engine oil cooler (2). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Remove stud (5) for the engine oil filter and remove engine oil cooler (2) from the engine oil filter base.

  1. If necessary, remove bolt (1) and the engine oil filter base.
