Description of Change: A new flash file, 243-6464 Machine Software Gp, is now available for the Caterpillar Machine Security System (MSS). It is recommended that all of the machines that are equipped with the MSS be updated with the new flash file. This update is only for the stand-alone version of MSS. The stand-alone version uses the 156-6155 Unprogrammed Electronic Control Module .

Note: In order to utilize all of the improvements that are in the new flash file, use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) version 2004A SP1 or later.

    Adaptable To:

    New Feature and Improvements Include:

    1. Electronic key storage capacity has increased from 50 keys to 255 keys.

    1. Allow master access level any time a master access level key is used

In previous versions of software, the user was forced to remove the standard access level key and wait for the 30 second grace period to expire before inserting the master access level key. Doing so before the grace period expired would not grant master access level. The new version of software will allow master access level any time a master access level key is used.

    1. Real Time Clock Leap Year compensation

Previous versions of software did not correctly update the "Real Time Clock Leap Year" function in all situations. The new version of software correctly performs "Real Time Clock Leap Year" compensation.

    1. Added support for Service Tool MSS Status Request

This additional functionality allows the MSS status to be displayed on a Service Tool if requested. When the MSS is deciding whether to grant or deny access, the "Evaluating Access Request" status would be displayed. When the MSS denies access, the "System Operation Denied" status would be displayed. When the MSS grants access, the "System Operation Granted" status would be displayed.

    1. Correct updating of current key description

Previous versions of software did not correctly update the current key description field in all situations. The new version of software will read the current key ID, find the description corresponding to the current key ID and update the current key information after reading and validating the key. A blank current key description will be displayed for non-electronic keys and keys that are not in the key list. The current key description will be updated after adding, changing, or deleting key information.

    1. Correct logging of 1391-04 (Driver short-to-ground) diagnostic occurrences

In the previous version of software, the diagnostic occurrence count for 1391-04 would increment rapidly when the driver was shorted-to-ground. The new version of software will only increment the 1391-04 diagnostic occurrence count once per driver short-to-ground.
