Start By:

  1. Remove the Planetary Assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Planetary - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the oil from the planetary assembly into a suitable container. The capacity of the planetary assembly is 0.7 L (0.18 US gal).

  1. Remove two bolts (1), and planetary carrier (2) .

  1. Remove seal (3) .

  1. Remove six bolts (4) .

  1. Install four bolts (5). Turn bolts (5) evenly in order to remove sun gear (6) .

  1. Remove bearing cone (7), and hub (8) .

  1. Remove bearing cone (9) .

  1. Remove seal (10) .

  1. Remove seal (11) .

  1. Use tooling (A) to remove bearing cup (12) .

  1. Repeat Step 10 for the opposite side.
