--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: New welds are used on the rear box section of 994 Wheel Loader Buckets. The new welds are 16 mm (.63 in) instead of the former 8 mm (.32 in). The new welds are in the joints of the plates to the rear of the buckets and the hinges plates. (See photographs for the locations of the welds). To accommodate the larger welds, five new plates are used. However these plates are not serviced and the part numbers will not be listed.
Adaptable To: The new welds and plates are effective with 994 (9YF218) Wheel Loader and are adaptable to all earlier machines and buckets by using the following field repair procedure.
Field Repair Procedure
1. Remove the existing weld at the locations shown. Carbon air arc a 16 mm (.63 in) bevel. Fill bevel with 16 mm (.63 in) bevel weld and cover bevel weld with 16 mm (.63 in) fillet weld.
2. Inspect existing welds at location shown. If welds are free of cracks, add 13 mm (.51 in) bevel weld. If cracks are found, remove weld and replace weld with 27 mm (1.1 in) fillet weld.
3. Inspect welds at locations shown. If weld has worn to less than 8 mm (.32 in) or if cracks are present, remove entire weld and replace with 14 mm (.55 in) fillet weld.
NOTE: These areas must be checked regularly.
