Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for more information.

  1. Loosen clamp (2) and disconnect hose (1). Disconnect harness assemblies (3) .

  1. Plug and cap all openings.

  1. Remove nuts (4). Remove elbow assembly for exhaust (5) and the gasket.

  1. Loosen clamps (8) and disconnect hoses (9). Remove nuts (7). Remove exhaust manifold (6) and the gasket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position exhaust manifold (6) and the gasket. Apply Tooling (A) to nuts (7). Install nuts (7). Tighten nuts evenly to a torque of 14 N·m (10 lb ft). Start at the center and move outward in order to tighten the nuts. Connect hoses (9) and tighten clamps (8) .

  1. Position elbow assembly for exhaust (5) and the gasket. Install nuts (4) .

  1. Connect harness assemblies (3). Connect hose (1) and tighten clamp (2) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
