Engine Cat diidentifikasi dengan nomor seri, nomor spesifikasi kinerja, dan nomor pengaturan. Pada beberapa kasus, nomor modifikasi digunakan. Nomor ini tertera di Pelat Nomor Seri dan Pelat Informasi yang terpasang pada engine.
Dealer Cat memerlukan nomor ini untuk menentukan komponen yang tercakup bersama engine. Informasi ini memungkinkan identifikasi nomor suku cadang pengganti yang akurat.
