Usage:
Start By:
a. removal steering clutches
1. Drain the oil from the bevel gear compartment.
2. Remove lock (1) and nut (2) that holds the hub coupling to the shaft.
3. Remove the cork seal from the hub coupling.
Do not loosen the hub coupling without nut (2) installed on the shaft. |
4. Install nut (2) on the shaft again with approximately 3.18 mm (.125 in) clearance between the nut and the hub coupling.
5. Install tooling (A) and loosen hub coupling (3) from the shaft. Remove tooling (A), nut and hub coupling.
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the steering clutch hub coupling.

Make sure the splines are clean, dry and free of burrs before installation of the hub coupling. |
6. Putt hub coupling (3) in position on the shaft. Use tooling (B) and install hub coupling (3) on the shaft with a force of 120 ± 10 kN (27000 ± 2250 lb). The distance between the face of the hub coupling and the shoulder of the shaft must be 5.1 mm (.20 in).
7. Install cork seal on the hub coupling.
8. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads and install nut (2). Tighten the nut to a torque of 475 ± 47 N·m (350 ± 35 lb ft)
9. Install lock (1).
10. Fill the bevel gear case with correct oil to the correct level. See the Operation And Maintenance Manual.
