PROBLEM
The tilt lever on certain 950G and 962G Wheel Loaders needs to be inspected for out of specification welds and replaced if necessary. If the welds are out of specification cracking of the lever may result.AFFECTED PRODUCT

The tilt lever on the products listed below needs to be inspected for out of specification welds and replaced if necessary. If the welds are out of specification cracking of the lever may result.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated December 14, 2001 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.

REWORK PROCEDURE
Tools and materials required:
Sand paper 60
Nital (Solution of alcohol and nitric acid to 5%)
Cotton
Tweezers
Alcohol
- Start by lifting the arm, tilting the bucket down and placing the tip in the ground to gain access to the bottom face of the Tilt Lever. Turn the start key to the 'OFF' position, turn disconnect key to the 'Disconnect' position, and remove 'disconnect' key..
- Record the Lever NUMERAL KOD and the three digits sequence number.
- Grind the area as indicated in the illustration below until complete paint removal and provide a good sand paper finish.
- Clean up the area with alcohol.
- Use the tweezers to soak the cotton with Nital and apply over the prepared area several times.
- Verify results. After apply Nital, a reaction, clear coloration in contrast with the metal base could be noticed in the surface, which indicates whether the part was welded or not. Welds up to 20 mm in diameter are acceptable.
- If out of specification weld rework is found, replace the Tilt Lever Assembly per SENR1392-04, Machine Systems Disassembly And Assembly
- After inspection, clean up the area with alcohol until Nital is complete neutralized and repaint it.
