System Configuration Parameters

Usage:

3512 4DR
System Configuration Parameters are parameters that affect emissions, power of the engine, and other features. The parameters are programmed at the factory. In most cases, the parameters do not need to be changed. The System Configuration Parameters must be reprogrammed if an Electronic Control Module (ECM) is replaced and/or the engine rating is reprogrammed. System Configuration Parameters do not need to be reprogrammed if the Personality Module is replaced. Proper values for these parameters are available on the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). Certain Configuration Parameters are also stamped on the Engine Information Plate.

Note: If the parameters that are protected with the factory passwords are changed, the Caterpillar warranty may be voided.

Engine Serial Number

The engine serial number should be programmed to match the engine information plate. The serial number is not programmed on a new ECM.

ECM and Personality Module Interlock

Each personality module has a designated interlock code. On a new ECM, the personality module interlock is automatically programmed into the ECM. If a personality module with a different interlock code is installed, injection duration will be disabled and the engine will not start. If the customer has purchased a new personality module, the ECM interlock can be reset with the service tool. If the ECM is installed on a different application, the ECM interlock can be reset with the service tool. A factory password is required to change this parameter.

Equipment ID

This parameter allows the owner to identify the generator set.

Rated Fuel Position

This parameter is used to set engine power. A Factory Password is required to change this setting.

Table 1
Minimum     Default     Maximum
Minimum Rack     Engine Dependent     Engine Dependent

Crank Duration

The crank duration determines when the starting motors will be energized. The crank duration determines when the starting motors will be disengaged. Programming this parameter to 0 will prevent the ECM from engaging the starting motors.

Table 2
Minimum     Default     Maximum
0 seconds     10 seconds     120 seconds

Cranking Cycles

This parameter is the total number of crank cycles that can be performed.

Table 3
Minimum     Default     Maximum
0     5     10

Crank Terminate Speed

This parameter determines when the starting motor will disengage.

Table 4
Minimum     Default     Maximum
100 rpm     400 rpm     500 rpm

Fuel Correction Factor

The amount of fuel that is consumed by the engine is based on a map of the engine speed and the amount of rack. This parameter can be changed by the customer.

Total Hours

The total amount of engine hours can be programmed by the customer. A factory password is required to change this parameter.

Total Fuel

The ECM total fuel consumption can be programmed. A factory password is required to change this parameter.
