Description of Change: Improved spark plug adapters are used in the cylinder head groups on the above engines. The improved spark plug adapters are manufactured with a new heat treat process. The new heat treat process will improve the quality of the threads that are machined in the spark plug adapters. The improved threads will help reduce seizures of the spark plugs during normal maintenance.

Adaptable To: The 212-7518 Adapter is used on the above G3408C Engines, and G3412C Engines. This spark plug adapter is used in the cylinder head groups that follow:

Installation Procedure

This illustration shows a 212-7518 Adapter (1) in a cylinder head. (1) Spark plug adapter (2) 2S-2251 O-Ring Seal (3) 2N-7174 Adapter Gasket (4) Threads in the cylinder head for the adapter

1. Be sure that the threads (4) for the adapter that are in the cylinder head are clean and free of foreign material.

2. Be sure that the former adapter gasket (3) is removed from the cylinder head.

3. Install a new 2S-2251 O-Ring Seal (2) on the spark plug adapter (1) .

4. Put liquid soap on the O-ring seal (2) .

5. Put a new 2N-7174 Adapter Gasket (3) in position in the bore in the cylinder head.

6. Put 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the spark plug adapter (1) .

7. Install the spark plug adapter (1) in the cylinder head. Tighten the spark plug adapter to a torque of 95 ± 7 N·m (70 ± 5 lb ft).
